This paper examines the transformative and contentious role of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education, focusing on its pedagogical, administrative, and ethical implications. Through a qualitative case study of Mohammed V University in Rabat, the study highlights how AI tools are reshaping educational processes—enhancing efficiency, personalizing learning, and improving risk detection. However, the integration of AI also raises concerns over algorithmic bias, transparency, equity, and the erosion of human-centered educational values. The paper advocates for a balanced, ethically guided adoption of AI, urging universities to assume active roles as technology shapers rather than passive adopters. Findings emphasize the need for strong governance frameworks, AI literacy, and inclusive decision-making to ensure that AI enriches rather than undermines the mission of higher education.
